What is the
Oceanside Promise?
A community-wide commitment, anchored by the Oceanside Unified School District, to work together providing youth (and their families) with our best coordinated and data-driven efforts to ensure young people enter adulthood prepared to succeed.

Collective Impact
Together as partners we use the
Collective Impact framework to build a community movement to support youth (and their families).
We use rigorous performance management and continuous improvement approaches to make sure we get the job done. Initially The Promise will focus within the boundaries of Oceanside Unified School District, and over time may expand to include parts of the city of Oceanside covered by other districts.
Why do we need the Promise?
Despite best efforts by all concerned, nearly half of our third graders are not proficient in English Language Arts, and only about 26% of our high school seniors are graduating college-ready. This gives Oceanside youth little chance of reaching adulthood prepared to succeed.

Young people and families are leaving Oceanside for better education and income opportunities and businesses have difficulty finding qualified workers. As a result the tax base, commercial environment, and real estate values remain depressed, while local unemployment and underemployment stay high. Success of our youth means higher employment, lower crime, enhanced property values and business environment, a higher tax base and lower public costs.

The Oceanside community as a whole is responsible for the education and success of our youth. The Promise will bring private, non-profit, government, educator, philanthropic and community sectors together in a proven framework to address these issues, strategically and tactically in a coordinated, data-driven long term campaign.

The Promise leverages cross-sector and community resources through collaborative strategic planning and implementation of long term sustainable solutions. Each coordinated cross-sector activity is specifically designed to enhance the outcomes of participating Promise partners. To help us remain transparent with our partners and the community, the Promise will release a community report every year outlining the metrics to help us measure progress on the above five community goals.

We use ongoing data and a continuous improvement process to assure that we are maximizing our effectiveness with our partners and that our partners are aligned around a common set of goals that enhance each partner’s outcomes.
